# Trailer Management Guide

## What are trailers?

Trailers are cargo units that attach to vehicles to transport additional goods. They're common in heavy-cargo transport operations.

## Trailer types

| Type | Typical use |
|------|------------|
| **Enclosed** | General cargo protected from weather |
| **Flatbed** | Machinery, construction materials |
| **Refrigerated** | Food, medicine, perishable goods |
| **Tanker** | Liquids, fuel, chemicals |
| **Container** | Maritime cargo, imports/exports |
| **Lowboy** | Heavy machinery, tall equipment |

## Trailer Management

### View the trailer list

1. Go to **Fleet → Trailers**
2. You'll see all registered trailers
3. You can filter by:
   - **Trailer type**
   - **Status**: Active/Inactive
   - **Unassigned**: Show only trailers without a vehicle

### Create a new trailer

1. Click **New Trailer**
2. Fill in the details:

| Field | Description | Required |
|-------|-------------|-----------|
| Name | Identifying name (e.g., "Trailer 01") | No |
| Plate | Trailer's plate number | **Yes** |
| Type | Enclosed, Flatbed, Refrigerated, etc. | No |
| Max weight | Load capacity in kg | No |
| Max volume | Capacity in m³ | No |

3. **Dimensions** (optional):
   - Length (meters)
   - Width (meters)
   - Height (meters)

4. **Associated vehicle** (optional):
   - Select the vehicle the trailer will attach to

5. Click **Save**

### Link a trailer to a vehicle

1. On the trailer's detail view, click **Link vehicle**
2. Select the vehicle from the list
3. Confirm the link

> **Note**: A trailer can only be linked to one vehicle at a time.

### Unlink a trailer

1. On the trailer's detail view, click **Unlink**
2. The trailer will become available to link to another vehicle

## Use in Orders

When creating or editing a shipping order, you can select:
- The **vehicle** that will make the delivery
- The **trailer** that will be used (optional)

This is useful for:
- Tracking which equipment was used on each delivery
- Fleet utilization reports
- Regulatory compliance (e.g., bill of lading / Carta Porte)

## Trailer Statuses

| Status | Meaning |
|--------|-------------|
| **Active** | The trailer is operational |
| **Inactive** | The trailer isn't in use |
| **Linked** | It has an assigned vehicle |
| **Unassigned** | Available to link |

## Tips

- Use descriptive names that include the type (e.g., "Refrigerated 01")
- Log the dimensions to make load planning easier
- Periodically review unassigned trailers
